“A new dawn, a new day…
…And a new experience in shopping!
Dear viewers,
We’ve been away my dear friends, but be assured we’ve not been resting.
There’s a new feeling out there… Something definitely happening in the air, can you feel it? Can you smell it?
It’s the feeling of progression… more than that of accomplishment.
What we’re accomplishing here at the Metro-Centre and out there on the streets of Brooklands is something extraordinary. You, you’re challenging people’s conceptions, you’re becoming aware that some of the systems that are in place to protect you aren’t working. You’re waking up and asking “Hey, where’s my cut? Where’s my new car? My new kitchen?”
You can guarantee that at the Metro-Centre we know how you feel.
From now on your Loyalty Card will be worth more, you’ll start to get the rewards you deserve.
Special discounts if you or your family participate in the Stewarding scheme. Help protect your community, your Metro-Centre and earn club points.
Get out there and make a difference. If you make one change in your life this year, make it this one.
At the Metro-Centre we’re changing too. A new advertising and marketing campaign will soon show you all the marvellous benefits that we can offer. And, that we can offer each other.
Keep watching, keep supporting your community and keep supporting your Metro-Centre.”
PRESS RELEASE AND TV TRANSCRIPT GIVEN BY DAVID CRUISE 29th April.
St George’s Day Parade Success!
A big thank you to everyone who marched in the St George’s Day Parade on Saturday. I think we can all agree it was a truly incredible spectacle and wonderful celebration of everything we stand for. The police would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated and hard-working stewards for patrolling the route and making sure the event passed safely. Great job guys!
Other news – The North West Car Park exit will be closed due to the small incident in the early hours of Sunday morning. Brooklands Fire Service have advised us to keep the exit closed until the debris can be cleared.
Surrender arrive at the Metro-Centre
Superstar girl band Surrender have now arrived at the Metro-Centre in preparation for the St George’s Day Show this evening. Alicia Laing, one of the five members the group told Metro-Centre “We’re delighted to be here, it’s amazing to think that we’ve been invited to such a prestigious event. It’s been ten years since Geri’s union jack dress, so we’re so pleased to show that things have moved on.” The white and red St George’s dresses that the group will wear to perform their top ten hit Day of Forever, have been supplied by new clothing store Abattoir, first floor, South wing. “We’re really looking forward to the show, we’re hoping David Cruise will come and join us on stage.” Well, girls, you never know!
Interview with David Cruise
The Metro-Centre is currently buzzing with the St George’s Day vibe, so what better time than to speak to the man himself, David Cruise about how he feels about our celebration and his personal beliefs on this special day.
Metro-Centre: Hello, David. St George’s Day ought to be a national holiday, shouldn’t it?
David Cruise: Absolutely, no doubt about it! St Andrew’s day in Scotland is, St Patrick’s in Ireland… Why can’t we have St George’s day here? Where’s the spirit of pride there?
Metro-Centre: We’re feeling very proud here, David! How are the celebrations going to be looking?
David Cruise: I’m really, really pleased with the line-up we’ve got. The fact that Surrender are playing is just amazing, the girls can’t wait to see the Metro-Centre and do some shopping of their own! Then the parade on Saturday is just going to be amazing. The local Brooklands community have really come together and are going to be putting on an amazing show. It’ll be a sea of red and white.
Metro-Centre: And the Bears are going to be leading the parade?
David Cruise: Of course they are, it wouldn’t be the Metro-Centre without them!
Metro-Centre: And will they be fighting the dragon?
David Cruise: (laughing) Well, we’ll see, it’s traditional for the dragon to get slaughtered, so I expect so!
Metro-Centre: You’ve said in interviews that the dragon is ‘still out there’, what do you mean by that?
David Cruise: The dragon is a metaphor… You see there are elements, sadly elements within our own communities, that the dragon has come to represent… It’s sad, but in today’s day and age inevitable. The legend of St George lives on because the dragon is very much out there. It’s in our streets, in our corner shops, in the back room of our next-door neighbour… And it still has to be vanquished. We still need to defeat the dragon.
Metro-Centre: Will we be seeing you in your suit of armour then, David?
David Crusie: I’ll probably stick to my new suit from High Rise, on the first floor, the new Summer range is in. Recommended!
Metro-Centre: Maybe people could check it out after the parade?
David Cruise: Oh yes, the Metro-Centre will be open after the parade, until midnight in fact, so you can have a look at our new stores there and then.
Metro-Centre: Any other words to say to our readers?
David Cruise: Just make sure you have a great weekend! Really, a lot of nonsense is talked about St George’s Day and patriotism, sometimes it gets clouded with other talk about the day, Shakespeare and so on… But I think this coming Monday… If you really do feel strongly enough, then don’t go into work. Take the day off. Feel pride to be English. Feel pride to wear the St George’s cross and yes, treat yourself to a holiday, come to the Metro-Centre, be with your community. You’d be doing the right thing. St George would be proud and it’s not what they’d expect at all…
Metro-Centre: David, thank you.
English Pride, Metro-Centre Pride
At the Metro-Centre we’re gearing up for the St George’s Day celebrations across the board in all our stores. Exclusive and affordable fashion outlet Deep End is selling both men’s and women’s St George’s tops for the big day. Meanwhile, on the second floor, east wing, Prima Belladonna will be swapping all its Italian food for some decidedly more English fare. Finally make sure you’ve stocked up with flags and noisemakers at Malek and Constantin’s Novelties on the third floor, north sector – it’s time to celebrate!
